St Brigid’s College is a Co-Educational Catholic Secondary College serving the Parish of Ss. Michael & John Horsham. St Brigid’s College began when the foundation stone of the original building was laid on the 14th September, 1919, by the Right Reverend Dr. D. Foley, Bishop of the Ballarat Diocese. The Parish Priest responsible for the foundation was the very Rev. D. Howell. Five Brigidine Nuns arrived in Horsham in April 1920, and St Brigid's College was officially opened in May. Three boys and five girls were enrolled. The first Superior was Mother Stanislaus Tobin. In 1968 the co-educational school of 190 pupils moved to a new site in the corner of Robinson and Hamilton Streets. The College comprises two East-West building wings with central corridors and fronts Robinson Street with an entrance, office area and joining corridor to both wings. In April 2000, a new building was opened to accommodate music at St Brigid's. It was named the Claver Music Centre, after well known music teacher, Mother Claver. Mother Claver, a Brigidine, taught in Horsham for 40 years. In June 2004 a new Multi-Purpose Stadium was officially opened by Bishop Peter Connors, Bishop of the Ballarat Diocese and Mr. Larry Burn, Director of the Catholic Education Office, Ballarat Diocese. Coughlin Park is situated beyond the building area. It has sporting facilities for netball, cricket, bowls and tennis. A football oval with clubrooms and facilities are also located in this area. The College is situated on the
Corner of Hamilton and Robinson Streets. The main entrance to the school is
situated in Robinson Street. There is a vehicle entrance at the rear of the
College, which is accessed from Hamilton Street. |
