Students travel to Japan!

In September, a group of our students embarked on an unforgettable 12-day study tour of Japan, experiencing the country's rich culture, history, education and modern innovation.

The tour began in Tokyo, where students enjoyed a traditional Japanese-style breakfast before visiting the historic district of Asakusa. They then explored the immersive digital art experiences of TeamLab Planets, where cutting-edge projections, lights and sounds created a truly unique sensory experience. The day concluded with breathtaking night views of the city from the iconic Tokyo Skytree.

A highlight of the tour was a visit to our sister school, Matsudo Kokusai High School in Chiba Prefecture. Students received a warm welcome from their Japanese hosts, including personalised name tags displayed on each student's shoe locker. During the visit, they participated in a Japanese cultural class, creating traditional string art before taking part in activities such as kendo, Japanese sword fighting and a traditional tea ceremony. Throughout the day, students formed new friendships and practised communicating in both English and Japanese.

In Kyoto, students participated in a sushi-making workshop, preparing authentic sushi using fresh ingredients. Many students who would not normally choose seafood were surprised by how much they enjoyed the experience. They also dressed in traditional kimono, took part in a Japanese tea ceremony and visited the impressive Higashi Honganji Temple.

From Kyoto, the tour continued to Hiroshima, where students reflected on the city's history through visits to the Atomic Bomb Dome and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. They also enjoyed a traditional okonomiyaki dinner and explored the beautiful island of Miyajima.

The final stage of the trip took students to Osaka and Nara. While in Osaka, they visited the magnificent Osaka Castle and explored the vibrant Dotonbori district. During their visit to Nara, students saw historic temples, marvelled at the giant Buddha and met the famous deer that famously bow to visitors.

On the final day, students explored Osaka in small groups, pursuing their own interests and experiencing the city at their own pace. Activities included a chopstick-making workshop, shopping for watches, enjoying a delicious katsu lunch and taking in panoramic views from one of Osaka's tallest observation decks.

The study tour provided students with invaluable cultural immersion, educational experiences and opportunities to build international friendships. It was a memorable and rewarding journey that broadened horizons and created lasting memories for everyone involved.
